My Travel Story

Hello Everyone! 

This will be a monumental year for me as I have been granted a wonderful opportunity to study abroad in the coming months in Siracusa Province, Syracuse, Italy! From a young age, I have always wished for the opportunity to be able to travel outside of the United States, but never have. And I've always longed to explore the culinary culture of other countries.  

I am a current Sociology undergraduate student at A.S.U. I have been accepted for a study abroad Mediterranean Food and Culture program May 13 - May 20, 2020. For one week I will be able to analyse the Mediterranean lifestyle from a historic/cultural, scientific and sociological perspective. In Siracusa, I will experience a regional sub-culture of the Mediterranean diet and lifestyle through visits to farms, food processing sites, local markets, and traditional resteraunts in the city and in the counrtyside. I will also participate in a cooking class, a meal hosted by a local family and discussions with farmers, fishermen, chefs, and food activists. 

The total trip cost is approximately $5000. This includes airfare, tuition, food, passport, and local transportation. I have financial aid that covers a portion and I am applying for scholarships to possibly help fund some of the program. I hope to make this goal. Every little bit helps!
