My Travel Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraiser. My name is Juri. I am an aspiring author and currently a college student in Tokyo, Japan, majoring in Political Science. I plan to take a semester off to go on a journey in Africa with a good cause. A few years ago, an acquaintance of mine (a senior by two years) shared his memorable experience of teaching kindergarteners in Tanzania, a country in East Africa. I remember being in complete awe because I could only imagine how significant of an experience that must have been for him. On average, classes in primary schools have a teacher-to-student ratio of 1:53 and are more drastic in rural areas. It would be a great privilege to be able to partake in this job to assist teachers in understaffed schools and to be able to interact with local Tanzanian children to help them with education.

Several years later, I finally made up my mind that this was surely something I want to experience in life. Japan is very far from Africa, so a flight all the way to Tanzania is very costly. I am still a student with college loans, so it is hard for me to save up to financially support my mission. It has always been my dream to experience the real Africa, and I naturally love people and want to encounter many cultures, as well as interacting with the local community.

With this in mind, I started my first-ever fundraiser. I intend to document my trip and write an article about this once in a lifetime experience in hopes that it may move others and let them see the beauty in Africa. Any amount of donation will greatly impact me (and hopefully the people I will come across) in a meaningful way. Thank you for taking your time to read this. May God bless you all!
