My Travel Story

by: Menna Elhosary Start Date: Feb 9, 2025 - End Date: Aug 8, 2025
Hi, I am Menna Elhosary, an Egyptian award-winning communication scholar and PhD student at City St Georges, University of London. My research explores the weaponization of generative AI, its embedded biases, and the potential for disinformation (spreading fake news!).

This year, I plan to present my research at some of the most prestigious academic conferences in my field, including:
- ICA’s 75th Annual Conference (International Communication Association)
- AEJMC 2025 (Association for Education in Journalism & Mass Communication)
- IAMCR 2025 (International Association for Media & Communication Research)
- Women in Research Forum at the University of Sharjah

These conferences are vital to my academic career—not only to share my research but also to network with leading scholars, and collaborate on future projects.

Why Your Support Matters?
As an Egyptian scholar, I am passionate about bridging global knowledge gaps and ensuring that AI-related disinformation research includes diverse voices. However, international travel is extremely expensive, and my PhD stipend barely covers my living expenses. I have no institutional funding to cover flights, accommodation, and registration fees.

Additionally, I recently won this year's ICA’s Top Student Paper Award—a prestigious recognition that I can only receive in person. This award is a milestone in my career, and attending these conferences is crucial for my academic and professional growth.

Your donation will directly support my:
Conference registration fees
Flights and transportation
Accommodation during the events

Every contribution, big or small, brings me one step closer to making this journey possible.
