As someone who wants to become an American Sign Language interpreter, I find learning and studying deaf history and culture of any sign language to be fascinating. My future career is based on language and immersing myself into a new community that is rich of history, traditions, and language. I want to bridge tha gap between the hearing and Deaf communities by making connections and learning the values behind each tradition. Traveling to a different country to learn French Sign Language, immerse myself into their community and culture, while making lifelong connections, will enable me to begin my journey as a sign language interpreter, whether in the long term, that be American Sign Language, French Sign Language, British Sign Language, or many, many others! I'm excited to see where this first step brings me, and how the lessons learned abroad will impact my studies and career as an interpreter.
