In a Nutshell:

I am a junior at the University of Houston and I have been given an amazing and a rather super exciting opportuinty to study abroad this summer in Granada, Spain through the Sol Education Abroad program. This program will allow me to live in Spain for 5 weeks with a host family while I continue to study and expand my knowlege in the Spainish language. In addition to enhancing my Spainish speaking and understanding skills, I will also be immersed in the culture of Spain through cultural activites as well as spending time with my host family, which will give me a more intimate experience of the Spanish culture. It has always been a desire of my heart to study abroad in college. I never thought I would one day be considering going to a country where English was not the primary language, or even living in a host home! But here I am, going to Spain in less than 5 months to study Spanish! However, in order to do this I will need help funding my trip to Spain. I am a full time student that works part time. My weekdays are filled with accouting principle rules, English literary theories, and Spanish grammer rules, as well as weekends that are spent working at the local resturant in town as a waitress, and going to church. In a nutshell, by helping me fund my semester abroad you will be an essential part in helping me expand my Spanish speaking skills as well as giving me the experience of a lifetime.

The Program:

"If your were to visit only one city in Spain, this should be Granada" - Ernest Hemingway

The Sol Education Abroad program will give me the opportunity to study at the University of Granada’s Center of Modern Languages for 5 weeks. In additon to weekday classes at the University, I will also have the ability to attend weekend exursions. These exursions would give me the opportuinity to see Spain and learn more about it's history through trips to the Alhambra Palace, through hikes in the Sierra Mountain villages, through visits to the oldest Spanish city in Spain, Sevilla, through experiencing the Los Cahorros Hanging Bridges, or through a day trip to a Mediterranean beach. Futhermore, local cultural activites will also further my experience in Spain.

Why Going to Spain is Important to Me:

In my personal opinion, I think being fluent in another language is an important skillset to possess. Upon taking my first Spanish class in college this past fall, I found myself being able to communicate to other Spanish speakers in small conversations. That is something that I have never thought I would be able to do! And I can't wait to be able to hold a complete, full, and intellectucal converstaion with a Spanish speaker one day! With Spanish being one of the fastest growing languages in the world, becoming fluent in Spanish would be a great skillset to posses in terms of looking for future employment after college, or even giving me the ability to help others who only speak Spanish. Language is one of the barriers to communication, and if I can break through one of those barriers who knows what I'll be able to achieve in my future!

Where you come in:

You can help me experience all of this through your help. I am usually not one that likes to ask for finanical help, and frankly I am a little uncomfortable with creating a page campaigning for my trip, but every cent and every dollar will count. So why not put myself out there and start a fundraiser? Please realize that your donations are very much appreciated and valued. Whether you are able to give $10, $15, $20, or go above and beyond with a generous donation, I can assure you that your contribution will not be in vain. You would be investing in my future, as well as in the development of my character. I have been praying about his trip for some months now, and I truly believe God has granted one of the desires of my heart by leading me to this program in Spain.
