My Travel Story

I will be working with individuals who suffer with mental health issues in Sri Lanka for 5 weeks in July. I’ll be running activities for patients and using sensory, music and creative therapies to engage with patients on a variety of wards in multiple institutions. Along with this, ill be working with individuals suffering with special needs and teaching English to young people on vocational courses. 

Mental health is something that affects 1 in 4 in the UK every single year, and the UK is amongst the most developed countries in the world. With this in mind, Sri Lanka doesnt have half the kind of support they need within this area. By sponsoring me, it not only gives me the opportunity to provide the support that patients need in Sri Lanka and benefit their well beings, it also further develops my career and goals. 

An examplar day on my placement would be spending half the day in a psychiatric unit and the other half in a mental health care home. Every day entails different responsibilities which include, special need work, english development within all ages and general adult/child development. SLV Global is a respected company with big aims in helping the wider world and benefiting communities that need extra support, and being a part of their team is an achievement in itself.
