Study Abroad Trip in Germany
My Travel Story
My main goals for my trip is cultural and language immersion. I aim to finish my degree either while abroad for a year, or immediately after the trip. On the other side of my college interests, as a mixed-race student, I don't necessarily have a single cultural heritage of my own, America is very slow with progression when dealing with multiracial children, and I feel as if I can't see my identity while in America. I think that traveling to another center of historical cultural oppression would be interesting, the contrast between our forced looseness and Germany's intense order will be interesting to document.
My long-term goals after the trip will be in the study of multiculturalism on a global scale. Western Europe treats their multiracial citizens in different ways, and I want to see that. I want to document the differences between biracial and multiracial Afro-Europeans and see how different countries see mixed race children and adults on screen and in pop culture.
