My Travel Story

I'm reaching out to you because I need your help to make a dream come true for my best friend, Anna. She is one of the kindest, most loving people I know, and despite everything life has thrown her way, she still has a heart full of dreams. One of those dreams is to visit Mexico, a place tied to her roots through her Mexican grandfather. It’s a dream she’s had for years, but life hasn’t been kind to her, and this dream has remained out of reach.

But life hasn’t been kind to Anna. Just when she should have been living the happiest chapter of her life, she found herself trapped in an abusive relationship. The man she trusted most became the source of her deepest pain, emotionally mistreating her and leaving her in a state of constant distress. I remember her telling me about the unbearable abdominal pain she’d experience after his episodes of abuse, how she’d cry for days on end, unable to find a way out of the cycle. It broke my heart to see her suffer like this, feeling trapped and powerless.

Then came the hardest blow—Anna discovered she was pregnant. After surviving a severe bout of COVID and being ghosted by her boyfriend during that time, she made the brave decision to share the news with him. But instead of support, he pressured her to have an abortion. Anna, as strong as she is, wanted to make an informed decision about her body and her future. She sought advice from a doctor, only to hear the devastating news that continuing the pregnancy wasn’t safe due to the antidepressant medication she was taking. It was a heartbreaking decision, but she faced it with incredible courage.

For a few days, her boyfriend pretended to stand by her, offering hollow support to ensure she went through with the surgery. But after the procedure, when Anna was at her lowest—her heart broken, her hormones out of balance, and her spirit drained—he abandoned her. That very night, he went out to a club with his friends and other women, leaving Anna to face the aftermath completely alone. When she confronted him, his cruel words—calling her “disgusting”—added salt to her already deep wounds.

The emotional and physical abuse plunged Anna into severe depression. She lost 10 kilograms—an alarming amount, given her small frame of just 50 kg at 1.73 m tall. Her hair began to fall out, insomnia took over, and she developed crippling social anxiety. She became physically ill at the thought of being around people, lost her job, and eventually had to rely on her parents for support during this dark period.

At her lowest, Anna was in so much pain that she began to physically harm herself. It was her way of trying to cope with the overwhelming sadness and hopelessness she felt. I can’t put into words how hard it was to see her like that, hurting herself just to get through the days. Those moments were some of the darkest of her life, and they left scars—both visible and invisible—that she continues to carry.

But Anna is a fighter. With the help of her family, me, her doctors, and her therapist, she started to heal. It wasn’t easy, and the scars from her trauma run deep, but little by little, she began to rediscover her strength. Now, as we approach 2025, Anna is starting to take control of her life again. Even so, the memories of what she endured still linger.

The timing of this trip is especially significant. It would happen at the one-year anniversary of her abortion—a time when the darkest memories are bound to resurface. Instead of letting her be consumed by pain, this trip would be an opportunity for her to replace those memories with something beautiful and healing. It would be a chance for Anna to reclaim her joy, to embrace her roots, and to create new, hopeful memories in a place that has always been close to her heart.

This is why I believe Anna deserves something beautiful to remind her of the joy life can offer. She deserves to fulfill her lifelong dream of visiting Mexico—a dream that has always been so close to her heart. I know that reconnecting with her roots and experiencing the vibrant culture of her grandfather’s homeland would bring her a sense of healing and joy that she hasn’t felt in so long.

Sadly, neither Anna, her family, nor I have the financial means to make this dream come true. We’ve looked into every option, but it feels impossible. Just when I was about to give up, I found this platform, and it feels like a sign of hope—a chance to give Anna the gift of a lifetime when she needs it most.

I’m reaching out to this incredible community to help make Anna’s dream a reality. She has endured so much—more than anyone ever should—and I know she deserves this chance to experience the beauty of the world beyond the pain. Your support could give Anna the opportunity to heal, to reconnect with her roots, and to rediscover the happiness she deserves.

Please consider helping us make this dream come true for Anna. With your kindness and generosity, we can give her the chance to heal, to travel to Mexico, and to find the joy that she has longed for. Thank you for being part of this journey and for helping Anna take this incredible step forward.
