Relaxing Vacations
My Travel Story
For the past few years, my life has been filled with stress and drama. My father left our family without notice or any just cause. It was a devastating blow to all of us—my mother, my two brothers, and me. We were completely blindsided.
My name is Jah’Nae St. Louis, and for the past few years, my life has been a tumultuous journey filled with unexpected twists and heart-wrenching turns. On April 24, 2022, our family faced a devastating blow—one that left us reeling and questioning the very fabric of our existence.
It was a seemingly ordinary day when my father abruptly left us—my mother, my two brothers, and me. There was no warning, no explanation. We were blindsided, left standing in the wake of his departure. Our family, once the epitome of American values—love, loyalty, trust, and honesty—was shattered.
My mother, who had been deeply in love with my father since they met at the tender age of 18, had been married to him for 28 years. Their bond was unbreakable—or so we thought. But she, too, was shocked by his departure. And it happened at a time when she was already battling multiple health issues.
Here’s a glimpse into our family’s struggles:
My Mother’s Health Challenges:
• Type 1 diabetes
• Fibromyalgia
• Diverticulitis
• C-diff infection
• Extreme anxiety
• Recovery from symptoms related to endometriosis and cancer
•
• My Eldest Brother:
• Diagnosed with mild retardation
• Bipolar disorder
• ADHD
• Poor impulse control disorder
• Schizophrenia
•
• My Second Oldest Brother:
• Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes since he was 2 years old
•
• Myself:
• Diagnosed with Fibromyalgia
• Lupus
• Sjögren syndrome
We were once the family everyone dreamed of—a living embodiment of American family values: love, loyalty, trust, honesty, friendship, dependability, open communication, and a unique bond of unity. But my father’s departure shattered that idyllic image, ripping our hearts apart.
He abandoned us, leaving behind a trail of financial distress:
• Mortgage: 3 months past due
• Car note: 2 months past due
• Utility bills: Months late (our water was even cut off due to a mere $18.00 past due)
• He emptied all our bank accounts: checking, savings, and even my special needs brother’s account.
The stress and devastation of his departure exacerbated my mother’s illnesses. I vividly remember his last words before leaving: “Turn off the lights, baby. Let’s say prayers.” He thanked God for blessing their marriage and asked for my mother’s recovery. By 9:00 am the next day, he was gone.
My mom remains on FMLA, juggling her illnesses while trying to keep our lives afloat. She works tirelessly, her strength fueled by love for us and the memories of better days,
we are struggling to make ends meet.
If you can offer any financial support during this challenging time, it would mean the world to us. Your kindness could help ease our burdens. Every little bit counts, and your kindness would help alleviate some of the burdens we are currently carrying.
Thank you for being a true friend, and for standing by us as we navigate this storm. Your compassion and generosity would make a significant difference.
With heartfelt gratitude,
