School Volunteering, Kenya July 2020
My Travel Story
We will be working in Nakuru, Kenya’s fourth largest city, where small-scale agriculture, manufacturing and tourism are the backbone of the economy. In the communities where African Adventures focus their work, the cost of an education is out of reach for many so they work with schools that have been set up by local people to give children the chance of a better future.
So on the trip, we aim to improve access to education within the local community there to help change lives for the future generations. I will learn about a new culture, be involved with teaching, running sports sessions and building new classrooms at the school. It will give me a chance to step out my comfort zone & learn new skills in doing so. It is a trip of lifetime and one I am passionate about having wanted to do it for such a long time. To be able to experience their culture, but also, more importantly, be able to spend time with them and give something back to their community when they are much less fortunate than me. It will take me out of my comfort zone, but it is such a small amount of my time that I can give them, but will mean so much to them, their community and help them in so many ways.
But to do this with African Adventures, I need to fundraise the funds as part of my experience and to develop a new skill in this before I go. I hope you will be able to help me, thank you!
