My Travel Story

Hello All, my name is Dashen!

After 3 unforgettable and challenging years at Birmingham City University, I managed to achieve a 1st class award in Psychology (BSc Hons). I've always yearned to see the world. However, it was not until I took advantage of the travel opportunities during my university career that I was able to understand the beauty, memories, and educational prospects that underlie travelling and truly appreciate cultures, societies and people that diverge from my norm.

Although I am not sure what area of psychology I would like to go into, I am sure that, I would, at a later date, like to further my knowledge with a Masters/PhD. Not only do I believe that I can benefit from this experience from an individual level (i.e. being exposed to unfamiliar/new careers, building international relationships, empathy and understanding of different cultures) but I also believe that I may contribute to the research base in the future, allow those who follow my journey to learn and even improve international relations.

What will I be doing whilst travelling?
To begin my travels, I have secured an internship with InternChina. This is an award-winning organisation that has provided programmes since 2007 and placed over 2000 students and graduates from various countries in China. Respectively, from the 15th October, I will be utilising the skills I have acquired in my degree to conduct research and empirically compare computing to non-computing students. In addition, I will be teaching English and employing the videography skills that I have. My time with InternChina will span across 2 months.

Following this, I will continue to travel with everything that I own in my backpack. In preparation, I have acquired a Teaching English & Foreign Languages (TEFL) Qualification to allow me to teach English in various places throughout my travels. Alongside this, I am also a qualified and experienced Personal Trainer, which may also prove useful as I travel to various destinations.

Why should you donate?
Knowing travelling was what I want to do, I finished university and have been juggling 4 jobs ever since. I have been in contact with charities and trusts to seek various types of assistance. However, it does not stop there! I intend to do fundraisers/events to encourage those that are considering making a donation to support me. I am currently organising a bike ride from Birmingham to Wales, a car wash, and a MudRunner (just to list a few).

More about ‘why’…
I believe that doing so will provide a positive example for those that see me trying to achieve my dream; encouraging others (e.g. young people, graduates, elderly etc.) to believe in themselves, not give up and most importantly to TRAVEL. For this reason, I also intend to catalogue my entire journey through various creative expressions (i.e. poetry, music, Vlogs, Blogs, videography, Instagram and Facebook). Moreover, I WILL raise the funds I need to travel even if I have to work 4567567 jobs. Hahaha!

Thank you in advance!
I'm sure that, if I continue to work hard, with your help, I will be able to meet my goal! Any donation small or large will be appreciated!

Dashen Allen.
