Our beloved, widowed Mother turns 70
My Travel Story
My mother, Betti, has been a widow for 14 years and is turing 70 this year. She made a promise 4 years ago to her children and grandchildren that she would take (and pay) for all of them to go on a boat cruise when she turns 70! Keeping her promise, she booked an amazing boat trip for her family of 14 (including herself) to celebrate her 70th which is actually on the 9th of May this year. She has 7 grand children and they are all so excited to be going on the long-awaited overseas holiday in July this year.
What she did not take into account was that our country's currency, the rand, has weakened by more than 30% against major currencies like the dollar and euro over the last 4 years and this trip has now become more expensive than originally anticipated. All flights and the actual cruise tickets have been paid for by Betti, but now she has run out of funds and would not be able to fund any daily excursions when the boat stops over at various city ports. It would be so sad to go all this way and end up not being able to enjoy the excitement of every city. We would love to join organised day trips in each city, which would certainly be very educational and entertaining to all in our company, but these tours would not be in our reach without funding. We will be so grateful to those who are prepared to sow into our long awaited family holiday and would hopefully bring something back to our country to share lessons learnt and experiences gained with those that are less fortunate.
