My Travel Story

by: Lexi Wilson Start Date: Feb 24, 2016 - End Date: Nov 23, 2016
Hello friends and family!

I have been accepted to volunteer abroad in Sri Lanka for a 4 week mental health placement beginning November 7th, 2016. Sri Lanka is a tropical island off the Southern tip of India, Asia. I became interested in the SLV organization because I have always wanted to either study abroad or volunteer abroad, and this sounded like a great opportunity to help others who are less fortunate, as well as solid mental health experience needed for my future plans of graduate school. During these 4 weeks abroad I will be working one day a week at a mental health facility to help individuals with mental health issues. On the other 4 days of the week I will be working on other projects such as creative workshops with children who are less fortunate or have special needs, as well as actually teaching English to younger children and older adults! In addition to these projects I will be in two workshops, Creative Therapy and Meditation. As far as where I will be staying, what I will be eating, etc., volunteers will be staying in family homes that will be cooking two traditional meals a day for us! If you would like to know more info, please visit https://slvolunteers.com/, or watch the attached videos. This volunteer trip is not only meaningful to myself because I get to help others in need, but I also feel it will further my knowledge in many different areas and well-being overall! I am very grateful for any donation, big or small, ANYTHING will help! I will even send you a postcard with what I have been working on while I am there if you would like :) Thank you for taking your time to read this and learn about what I will be doing this November!
