My Travel Story

My name is Sarah! I just finished my undergraduate at University of Virginia in December with a Bachelors in Kinesiology. I will be attending a Doctorate in Physcial Therapy program in Summer/Fall 2025 (location TBD). I have the opportunity to do an internship abroad in Spain during my gap semester. As I have been fortunate enough to have traveled to Europe this past summer, I was not able to visit Spain. I would also love to see France and Portugal when there. 
My goals for my 8-week Internship in Sports and Exercise Science: 
  1. I want to learn how Spain's healthcare systems might prioritize certain rehabilitation practices, offer different patient care approaches, or have unique policies that influence physical therapy practices.
  2. I hope to experience new techniques and practices, as I will likely be exposed to different therapeutic approaches, rehabilitation technologies and treatment protocols that differ from the United States.
  3. I wish to expand my cultural competency, learning to adapt my communication style to different cultural norms, becoming more flexible and sensitive to diverse populations I may work with in my field.
It would be an incredible opportunity to work in Spain, as I have a deep appreciation for immersing myself in and learning more about Spanish culture. I am eager to broaden my global perspective and strengthen my knowledge and skills toward my goal of becoming a Physical Therapist.

I will also be spending some time traveling on weekends to other cities in Spain (Granada, Seville are my top two!) and France (Paris, Normandy).
