The number of people affected by the passage of the Tropical Cyclone Freddy weather system in Malawi continues to rise, with 345,183 people displaced, 505 camps established, 438 deaths, 918 injured and 282 people missing as of 17 March, according to Malawi’s Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA). At least 280,000 children in Malawi have been affected by the storm, according to UNICEF. These figures are expected to rise in the days ahead as further information becomes available, especially in areas that have been cut off from communications.
