My Travel Story

London, the city of literature, the city of people, the city of my dreams.

In the beginning of 2017 I took the money I had saved, dollar by dollar, for over a year, and bought a plane ticket to London. There will never be a scarier moment than when I said goodbye to my family to fly nine hours over the Atlantic; my first plane ride. My first trip alone.

Being in London was exceptional. The people were kind and generous; no one was annoyed by my touristy questions or my excessive picture taking. The city itself was so entrancing that I spent several hours just walking and staring at perfectly ordinary buildings. Everything was bathed in history.

As someone who loves literature so much they’re currently getting two degrees in it, London felt like home immediately. I even got to go outside the city to places like Bath and see the homes of Jane Austen and Mary Shelley. Being in London – just being in England – made me more inspired to be a part of my future career as an English Professor.

I now have the opportunity to go back to this amazing city and study at London South Bank University. I will get to further my career in the same city where I felt so inspired to be a part of it.

Studying at LSBU will provide me with more than a semester’s worth of knowledge, it will provide me with the opportunity to seek out specific doctoral programs in my field. I am two years away from graduating with a master’s degree in Secondary English Education and English, and my plan is to begin my Ph.D. immediately upon graduation. After my visit to London, I want nothing more than to begin that chapter of my life there.

Right now, my tuition costs to study abroad are mostly covered by my academic scholarships. However, my family and I are going to have to pay around $6,000 USD out of pocket. I am starting this fundraiser in the hopes that you can help me raise half of that cost.

Things like airfare, food, toiletries, etc., are not covered in that tuition cost, so my family and I will likely be paying $8-10k out of pocket before this is all said and done. It is just not possible for us to do that alone.

This is an amazing opportunity that I can’t pass up, and I am so grateful for those of you who have taken the time to read this, and those of you who have donated.
