My Travel Story

by: Kirsten McTernan Start Date: Jun 13, 2022 - End Date: Sep 10, 2022
My youngest three boys, who are homeschooled, have the opportunity to experience an exciting 4-day marine biology trip with the author of our favorite award-winning science curriculum!!

If they get to go, they will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to immerse themselves in learning from expert marine biologists at the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge and Sebastian Inlet, in Florida.

My boys are most looking forward to saving baby sea turtles, kayaking in the dark to see the bioluminescence, exploring the tide pools, creating a traditional fisherman's art piece (Gyotaku art), building a raft, and spotting wildlife (like dolphins and manatees)!

They will also get to learn how to protect the environment at the Indian River Lagoon and Barrier Island, gain awareness of native and non-native marine vertebrates and crustaceans, oyster reefs, aquatic vegetation, terrestrial flora and fauna, sea birds, and much more.

It would mean a lot to us to be able to give our boys this opportunity.  It will enhance their education, increase their love of learning, help them develop new friendships with other homeschooled kids, and be the highlight of their homeschool "career"!

We decided to try crowd-funding as a way to raise the funds needed for this trip since we are unable to afford the trip otherwise.  We are living on a single-income and are living paycheck-to-paycheck.  We don't have any extra funds so we need your help to make this trip happen.  Thank you for reading this, and giving a donation of ANY amount.  Every dollar will help. We are so grateful for your support!
