My Travel Story

Hi!

My name is Dominika, and I am a 23-year-old student from Slovakia. A year ago, I made a life-changing decision to leave my home country and move to the United States in pursuit of personal and academic growth. I work as an au-pair and my au-pair year ends in October 2025. Until then, I would like to find a way how to pursue my dreams. This decision was not only about seeking new opportunities, but it was also a journey of self-discovery. Before moving here, I was studying hotel management, a path I had felt somewhat pushed into by my father. While I respect his work, I realized that I was not following my true passion, and I needed to find my own path.

As I moved to the United States, I was able to step outside of my comfort zone and explore new opportunities At the same time, I recognized that my future lay in a field that combined my passion for understanding the world with a drive for positive change. This realization led me to apply to Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business, specifically for the International Political Economy and Business program.

I am excited about the opportunity to further my education, embrace new challenges, and continue to pursue my goals in the fields of international business and political economy. I am confident that Georgetown University will be the ideal place for me to grow and achieve my ambitions.
I have always been driven by a deep curiosity and a desire to improve myself. From a young age, I found myself constantly questioning how things work. This curiosity fuels my passion for learning and drives me to seek out new experiences that challenge me intellectually and personally. I believe in approaching every new experience with patience and an open mind, carefully observing before making well-considered decisions. It is this approach that guides me through both my academic and personal journey.

Since arriving in the United States, I have learned valuable life lessons about resilience, independence, and the power of personal growth. Although the transition has been difficult at times, it has been an incredibly rewarding experience that has broadened my worldview and shaped my aspirations. I have met inspiring individuals who have challenged my perspectives and provided me with the tools to continue on my journey of self-improvement.

In addition to my academic pursuits, I have rediscovered a deep love for ballet, which has always been a part of my life. I am currently dancing at the Washington Ballet, and I have found that dancing is where I truly express myself and feel most at peace. Ballet has given me a sense of discipline, focus, and creativity, and it has become a source of joy and fulfillment. My dream is also to continue my training and pursue ballet alongside my studies, as I believe this art form is a key part of my personal growth.

However, the financial challenges of pursuing higher education in the U.S., coupled with the costs of continuing my ballet training, are significant. As an international student, it has been difficult to find the financial support necessary to fully fund my education and artistic endeavors. Despite my determination and commitment to achieving my goals, I am currently seeking financial assistance to continue both my academic studies and my ballet training. My ambition is not merely to succeed but to make a meaningful impact on the world by pursuing a career that aligns with my passion for learning, growth, and the arts.
