by: Ryann S Start Date: Oct 24, 2025 - End Date: Feb 23, 2026
Hello! My name is Ryann and I am a student at North Carolina State University. I am very fortunate to have recently gotten into the Galapagos Islands Animal Behavior and Conservation Study Abroad Program.
In this prgoram, I will learn about conservation, historical, and cultural issues facing Galápagans and Ecuadorians. Futhermore, I will become familiar with the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals (SDG) including goals relating to conserving and sustainably using oceans and marine resources, protecting and promoting the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, and making human settlements inclusive, safe, and sustainable. I will be studying the behavior of the diverise fauna on the Galapagos Islands and conservation of these species.
This trip will assist me in furthering my knowledge on species of wildlife, and how I can better understand them in thier natural environment. Additionally, it will teach me how I can work to better conserve these beautiful animals. As I am working towards a degree in Applied Zoology, this program will help me reach the goal of finishing my degree and going out into the world to make a difference among widlife and the way humans interact with them.
The Galapagos Islands has been described as Darwins Playground and the worlds best "zoo" because of its wide variety of wildlife. I have alwasy been very passionate about animals, making this an incredibe opportunity that I am exceptionally grateful for.
