My Travel Story
My grandma is my world. Strongest woman I know. She's my role model. I made her a promise. My heart aches with a longing to see my Grandma, who means the world to me. She's 74, and I fear time is slipping away. She raised me since I was a baby, a beacon of unconditional love and strength.
My own mother was very young when she had me and my brothers, and faced immense challenges. Grandma stepped in, adopting us to keep our family together, giving us a stable and loving home. She shielded us from the chaos, providing a foundation I desperately needed. When I was 12, she bravely moved us south, seeking a better life. Later, she returned to Maryland, our birthplace.
My path hasn't been easy. I've stumbled, made mistakes, and spent time incarcerated. But I'm turning my life around. I'm almost a year clean, and I'm determined to make her proud. However, a broken ankle and wrist, sustained while incarcerated, have left me unable to work. I'm struggling, without even an ID, waiting on my birth certificate, a process that feels agonizingly slow.
I promised Grandma I'd visit in October, a promise I desperately want to keep. But life's circumstances have left me stranded, unable to afford even the basics. I'm haunted by the thought of losing her without saying goodbye. She's my anchor, my guiding star, and I need to see her, to hold her hand, to tell her how much she means to me, before it's too late. Please, help me get to her.
