My Travel Story

Hello, 

My name is Erika and I have been involved in the dance community for the entirety of my life. I had the opportunity to teach my first class a little under a decade ago and have been in love with it ever since. This program is allowing me to combine my passions for teaching and traveling while also helping to foster change in underprivileged areas. During this program I will be venturing into the slums of Nairobi to connect with the community and spread my passion for the art of dance. I strongly believe that for people to grow they must be willing to open their hearts and experience all that the world has to offer.

During my stay in Nairobi I will be participating in many aspects of their community with the intent of fully immersing myself into their culture. This will include projects such as partaking in rehearsals with a local organization called VOCAL, teaching dance in local schools, volunteering at a home for abandoned children, and collaborating with other dancers to creates new pieces.
