My Travel Story

by: Allison Wolters Start Date: Aug 17, 2021 - End Date: Sep 16, 2021
My mother is nearly 70 years old her health has been at a steady decline these past few years with ailments like COPD to being stricken with pneumonia constantly to her ongoing recovery from alcoholism. I, her youngest daughter, lives in Denver, Co along with my son, River, who was recently diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder among other disorders affecting his leaning development. I used to work at a state college then deciding to take my leave to focus on my sons therpay. When covid hit Unfortunately my husband has had to shoulder most of the financial responsibilities even though his business EarthIndoors LLC also took as massive hit when the federal lockdown took effect and his whole business model dictates coming into his clients homes and taking care of their fresh/salt water aquariums. As expected, things such as travel or activities deemed unessential become either excesses or beyond our means to afford with having a family and all. But me and my child must visit my Mom who lives in Medford, Oregon before I never get the chance to see her again. She has been in the hospital for the past few months and continues to catch these secondary ailments that continue to make her recovery difficult. It's taken a toll on her body and up until this point, I never felt that time was as pressing or precious because I can't imagine ever losing her.
I've had had to realize some hard truths  that she may not be around forever. In All,  not having the funds nor the means to travel to Oregon from Colorado with this impending threat of my Mother becoming gravely ill at any time now plagues me. time has become so much more valuable and I'm learning this because I'm 1500 miles away from the woman that brought me into this world. So at last, I'm reaching out to my fellow travelers to help me and son get to my Mom and see her before it's too late. Before we never have the chance to say hello or even goodbye one last time. Thank you.
