My Travel Story

by: Michelle Fierro Start Date: Jan 24, 2018 - End Date: Jul 23, 2018
Hello my name is Michelle Fierro,
I am a student at the best university in the nation, Oklahoma State university. Thankfully because of my parents I am here at my beloved institution. My parents have worked endlessly to provide me with an education as they were unable to receive one themselves. Gratefully through Oklahoma State University I was awarded 6,000 dollars to study abroad however, it is not enough to cover my expenses. Studying abroad was always a dream for me that I did not know could become a reality. I grew up in the southside of Oklahoma City having small expectation and dreams in obtaining a higher education. As I matured so did my values for my education. Stepping stones came into place for me to go to college, I attended a highschool that was known as the "dropout factory" and in due time there I was walking across the stage wearing a red cap and gown.
But why Korea?
Korea since I was young has always been a place of interest for me. The culture and atmosphere of the country is compelling and something I want to experience.
While in Korea I will be attending Yonsei University for a 6 week summer program plus volunteering in Seoul teaching English to kids and adults in impoverished towns.
I am very grateful that I have been given the opportunity to travel, experience, and serve.
