My Travel Story

by: Zadock Ochogo Start Date: Jun 6, 2025 - End Date: Jun 12, 2025
My name is Ochogo Zadock. I’m a 29-year-old Kenyan man from the Luo tribe. Life hasn’t been easy for me—I’ve been struggling day by day just to make ends meet. Most days, I manage to find something small to eat—sometimes just porridge and a little corn. But I’m grateful even for that, because I know many go without.

For the past six years, I’ve been living in a slum called Korogocho, here in Nairobi. I haven’t had the chance to travel back home in all that time. My parents—who are now old and constantly ask about me—often send neighbors and relatives to beg me to come home. They think I’ve chosen to stay away, but the truth is, I simply can’t afford the bus fare. Home is 450 kilometers away, and even that journey has become a luxury I can't reach.

I miss my family dearly. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think about them. If I had the means, I’d be there in a heartbeat. But right now, I’m humbly reaching out to ask for help. Just $100 would make a world of difference. It would be enough to cover the bus fare, a little food, and small shopping to take home. I’m not asking for much—only what could help reconnect me with those I love most.

To anyone who finds it in their heart to assist me: thank you, deeply. Your help would mean more than words can express.

With hope and gratitude,
Ochogo Zadock
