RESTORE THE DIGNITY OF WOMEN BATTLING FISTULA IN MARSABIT.
My Travel Story
Fistula is a hole between the birth canal and bladder and/or rectum. It is one of the most serious and tragic childbirth injuries.
It is caused by prolonged, obstructed labor without access to timely, high quality medical treatment.
It leaves women with incontinence problems like leaking urine, feces or both and often leads to chronic medical problems like depression, social isolation and deepening poverty. It alienates the women suffering from all the socio-economic activities within the community. In Kenya, two women get Obstetric Fistula per 100 births. This results in 2,400 new cases annually. However, this condition is treatable through a reconstructive surgery, a medical procedure that most cannot easily finance.
Marsabit County being marginalized and among the Counties with highest poverty index, there is a high rate of Early Marriage/ Pregnancies, Lack of Education and Inadequate Quality Health facilities. It is also one of the Counties with the highest rate of maternity mortality rate within the Country.
I have managed to do this by the help of partners and well-wishers who continuously fundraise to help this cause.
With your financial support, we hope to help the fistula patients access the reconstructive surgery, psychological support and set up an income generating activity to help them be absorbed back into the community, post the surgery.
Please help me help her feel normal again and together let us restore the dignity of our women battling this menace called FISTULA.
