My Travel Story

I am excited to share that, next spring, I have the incredible opportunity to travel to Zambia, Africa for a nursing study abroad experience that I know will be truly life-changing. During this trip, I will be serving in local communities through home-based care visits, assisting with clinic support, providing health education on topics such as HIV, nutrition, and women’s health, leading an HIV education workshop, and helping children with reading and math in an after-school club.

This experience will have a profound impact on my education and future career as a nurse. Nursing is so much more than clinical skills—it’s about compassion, cultural understanding, and meeting people where they are. Ever since I was little, I felt the need to bring my light to others and I can’t think of a better way to bring my light to others in a completely different part of the world. I know I will learn as much from the people I am lucky enough to meet in Zambia as I hope they learn from me. These lessons will stay with me throughout my career and shape the kind of nurse I become.

This opportunity is incredibly meaningful to me because it represents the kind of nurse I aspire to be—one who leads with compassion, seeks to understand, and is dedicated to making a difference in the world. I truly believe this trip will shape both my life and my career in powerful ways. It will challenge me to be the best nurse I can be!
