Being in the military and stationed overseas can be rewarding, but when your kids are halfway around the world it hurts.  It is hard to see my kids twice a year because of costs.  Holidays aren't the same without them, and they ask to visit during the summer. It is just so expensive to fly to America to bring them back to Europe.
