My Travel Story

Hi everyone!

Welcome to my fundraising page for my volunteer trip to Bali. I am going for a month with an organisation group known as SLV. They run projects to help the local community whilst simultaneously helping students gain valuable experience in a different culture. I'll be devoting my skills to individuals who deviate from ideal mental health, working in a psychiatric hospital and a school, to understand mental health in more depth.

Indonesia is known for its beautiful landscapes and first hand experiences with nature. However, most people are oblivious to the lack of mental health care and community support which leaves many individuals vulnerable. After almost 40 years after Indonesia banned the practice of shackling people with mental health conditions, 19,000 people are still living in chains or are locked up in institutions where they're vulnerable to abuse.

The lack of availability of resources and facilities results in many people untreated and suffering from psychological conditions, face stigma, isolation and discrimination.

With your help, together we can understand the severity of the psychological issues that are around the world. Hopefully, given this opportunity, I may also be a part of educating and training (once qualified) today's and the next generations to come. I may be a small part of this, but we have to start somewhere. My dream is to eradicate all the above issues and to provide further research for Dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

Thank you for taking the time to visit and read my page. You will be able to follow my progress through my blog in which your donations have contributed to. Your kindness is greatly appreciated. You too are part of my dream!

Amani :)
