My Travel Story

Aloha everyone! 
My name is Katherine (Kat), and I am a current undergraduate sophomore studying Environmental + Interior Design at Chaminade University of Honolulu.

Born in Taiwan and raised on O'ahu, I have grown accustomed to the island-living style and seek to expand my cultural knowledge and experience in different landscapes. As a student from a low-income, single-parent household, I did not have opportunities to travel in my adolescence; however, I was fortunate enough to experience my first journey to the continental U.S last fall through a conference that was sponsored by the American Society of Interior Designers, of which I am their student representative to the board.

This summer, I will be embarking on my first study abroad experience in Florence for one month to earn six credits that will enhance my skillset as a design student. These skills include web design and digital graphics--courses that are unavailable at my home institution. I am also a huge art and nature enthusiast and hope to explore Florence's various museums, gardens, and hikes during my stay.  

The program has already been paid through combined efforts of money saved up through work as well as external scholarships, and I have booked my flight to Florence from Honolulu; however, I am currently short on funds for my return flight and living expenses. I am currently working three part-time jobs as a student worker, parks and recreation attendant servicer, and interior design freelancer to save up as much as possible, but will need support in securing financial peace of mind.
