My Travel Story

by: Marinel Ubaldo Start Date: May 19, 2018 - End Date: Jun 22, 2018
I am Marinel Ubaldo from the coastal barangay in Salcedo, Eastern Samar, Philippines. My community is facing the Pacific Ocean. I am a survivor of Super typhoon Haiyan last Nov. 8, 2013. I have a broken family and I am with my father who is a fisherman. I am a Youth Leader in my community and school since I was in first year Highschool.  I was the voice of the youth of the Philippines during the UNFCCC Conference of Parties 21 and Conference of Youth in Paris, France last 2015. Currently, I am an incoming 4th year College Student taking up Bachelor of Science in Social Work in Leyte Normal University in Tacloban City.

Luckily, I am one of those who were selected to be a delegate to the Asia Student Summit among the 3,041 applicants around Asia which will be held in Seoul, South Korea this coming July 16-20, 2018 with the theme: “Encouraging Talented Young Leaders for a Better Development of the country”.

Asia Student Summit is aimed specifically for young people who have a passion about Entrepreneur, Social Program, Culture, and ready to become part of world future leaders.

The mission of the event is to encourage the youth leaders to be the pioneer of development in their countries through learning in different perspectives by sharing and exchanging ideas, and creating an innovative and creative way to solve the current issues. This event will encourage the youth generation to make significant changes in the term of development by exploring the education system in one country and how the international companies run the economic life in the country that matters to the country’s development.

Surely, it will be such an honour for me to be one of the representatives of the Philippines to this special gathering. However, in order for me to attend this special event, I have to secure 600USD for the program fees which cover all the expenses for the whole duration of the event including the accommodation. In addition, the airfare to and from South Korea, which costs approximately 500USD for the roundtrip flight and the visa processing fee are at own expense which adds to my agony and weakens the possibility of me not attending the said event.

With this, I humbly ask for your help that I may attend the said event through your donations to complete my 600USD registration fee as well as 500USD round trip airfare. I need to complete my first payment for the registration fee of 300USD before May 30, 2018 and the other half should be completed before June 30, 2018 to ensure my slot for the Summit.

More than the personal gains that I will get from this trip, I would like to make the Asia Student Summit as a stepping stone in our shared vision of creating a better world. Any amount from your generous heart will be very much welcome. I ask for no specific amount and any pledge will mean so much.

Thank you so much for reading and May God bless you tenfold with the help you can hopefully extend to me. Thank you so much.
