My Travel Story

by: Audrey Berman Start Date: Oct 6, 2025 - End Date: May 1, 2026
Hi! My name is Audrey Berman. In May 2026, I will be serving as an Environmental Volunteer with International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ) in Hua Hin, Thailand, working on conservation projects that support both the local community and the surrounding natural environment. This opportunity is especially meaningful to me as I am currently a university student studying Environmental Science, and this program will allow me to combine my education with real-world, hands-on experience. It’s an amazing way to both serve others and grow in the field I am passionate about.

I’ll begin the program with an introduction at the Mangrove Ecosystem Learning Centre, where I’ll learn about Thailand’s environmental challenges and the importance of conservation. From there, much of my work will focus on the local mangrove nursery, where I’ll spend two days each week helping to prepare soil, water and nurse young plants, and plant new mangroves. This nursery provides essential seedlings that help protect coastal ecosystems, prevent erosion, and sustain biodiversity. I may also take part in activities like beach cleanups, creating waste bins, and community recycling projects—all aimed at building a cleaner, healthier environment.

The other three days of the week, I’ll be working on the education side of the program, helping to raise awareness of environmental issues within the local community and at schools. This will involve researching, preparing, and delivering presentations and workshops on topics such as recycling at home, reducing carbon footprints, separating waste properly, and understanding climate change. With the support of a local coordinator, I’ll be able to engage with students and community members, encouraging them to take part in sustainable practices that will benefit future generations.

Through this project, I’ll not only gain a deeper understanding of Thailand’s environmental landscape but also have the opportunity to contribute to long-term conservation efforts while inspiring others to protect the planet.

Donations will go directly toward supporting my program fee and travel expenses, including flights, so that I can take part in this extraordinary opportunity to serve communities while gaining practical, hands-on experience in environmental conservation.

Thank you!
Audrey Berman
