My Travel Story

Hello! I'm Kira. I'm a junior at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. My major is psychology and I have a double minor in English and creative writing. I've been accepted into ECU's 2023 London: Monsters & Magic study abroad program where I'll learn about UK literature and folklore. I hope to gain support to travel abroad so I can both expand my cultural knowledge and develop my writing skills. 

I came to ECU immediately after high school to make a fresh start after my mother's death in 2020. Throughout college, I was able to overcome my depression by focusing on my academics. Fortunately, I have secured a spot on the Chancellor's List with a 3.7 GPA. I've also learned to become more sociable, responsible, and determined to reach my goals.

This program fits into my personal goal of wanting to travel. Growing up, traveling was rarely an option for me due to health and financial issues within my family. Professionally, this program will help me earn the last remaining credits to satisfy my English requirement and support my goal of wanting to become a fiction writer.

Being given this opportunity is very exciting for me; however, I am completely dependent on myself as a colllege student. I do not have enough financial support to pay for the program, even with using financial aid. I appreciate any support I can get.
