My Travel Story

Hello!
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! In March I will be travelling to Bali on a volunteering trip with the company IVHQ. I have always dreamed of visiting Bali to experience the culture, particularly their ceremonial dances and Gamelan music, and to learn about their philosophy for life - harmony among people and with nature. 

I will spend one week working with a local school on the outskirts of Ubud, planning and leading environmental projects. Traditional Balinese food is wrapped in banana skin which can be dropped in the street, however, plastic wrappings are now being disposed of in the same way, creating a litter problem in the city. This is an example of the issues being solved by the local volunteering team. 

In my second week, I will be working in a kindergarten, helping the children with English and learning through various fun activities. I am excited to share my own enthusiasm for learning with the children and to make cross-cultural connections - with my Indonesian phrase book to hand!

Through this experience, I hope to return to the UK with inspiration for community oriented projects and perhaps a renewed outlook on society and our relationship with nature.
