My Travel Story

Hello!
     My name is Jordan Ramil and I am a junior study Social Work at Arizona State University. Along with my major, I have two minors in Criminology & Criminal Justice and Family & Human Development. In the summer of 2017, I am planning to study abroad in London, England to fulfill the rest of my minor in Criminal Justice. It will not be easy as I am a stereotypical poor college kid.
     Now, do not get me wrong, I am doing everything I can to fund my trip to London. I have two jobs and I am hoping to raise a substantial amount of money from those. However, the trip costs around $10,000 including lodging, tuition, food, airfare, and fun money. If I had two years to save, maybe I could pay for the trip on my own, but I only have about seven months. Normally, I am not the type of person to ask for help from strangers, but this trip would be amazing for me and it would benefit me academically.
     I grew up with two parents who were enlisted members of the U.S. Air Force. We have never been rich and will probably never achieve that status unless we win the lottery sometime soon. Despite not being rich, we have also never been poor; we have always been middle class. I cannot qualify for FAFSA or Pell Grants because my parents make too much money, even if it never felt like that to me. In order to pay for my study abroad I am putting up all of the money I make from working and an amount from my savings and that still might not be enough. FundMyTravel is something I believe can help me see part of the world outside of the United States.
     The trip is 2 June – 23 June and the three-credit class I will take is the British Roots of U.S. Criminal Justice. My group and our teachers will visit Scotland Yard, Royal Courts of Justice, Kensington Palace, Sherlock Holmes Museum, two prisons, and various other sites. I am only asking for $6,000 to pay for the tuition and housing of the trip. I realize this is a lot to ask of people I have never met and anything you are willing to donate would be amazing!
