My Travel Story

by: Anna Clark Start Date: Feb 12, 2023 - End Date: Jul 1, 2023
I will be doing a 3-month internship placement with 'Archipelagos Institute of Marine Conservation', based on the Greek island of Lipsi. During this internship, I will be joining the marine ecology team working on various research projects, such as assessing the biodiversity of coastal ecosystems, mapping seagrass meadows and coralligenous reefs, assessing the extent of microplastic distribution, determining the presence of invasive species, assessing the impacts of illegal trawling activity and increased sea temperatures, experimental replanting of seagrass, and much more!

I graduated in 2022 with a first-class degree in marine biology from the University of Essex. I live on the east coast of England and it has always been my dream to work in marine science. I need this opportunity not only to help the marine research being done at the institute, but to give me the skills and experience necessary for a career in ecology.

I have followed the work of Archipelagos Institute of Marine Conservation for a long time and I have always wanted to be involved in the research effort. Although I have a job, I will struggle to fund the living expenses for the whole 3 months whilst I am there. So, I would greatly appreciate financial aid so that I am able to fully contribute to this organisation's work.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story.

Best wishes,

Anna Clark.
