Hey everyone! I am Dominique Jean, a first-generation college student residing in South Florida. I recently graduated from Florida Atlantic University with my Bachelor's Degree in Biology on the pre-medical track. My goal is to become a practicing physician for communities that have limited access to high-quality medical care. I recently discovered a medical internship program called International Medical Aid (IMA) that allows students to intern in Peru and Kenya.

Participating in this program, I believe it will profoundly impact my education and career. Medical school has become more competitive and challenging to get into. IMA states that their shadowing programs have strengthened medical school applications and allowed students to stand out among the thousands of applicants. IMA will allow me to observe and actively engage with healthcare professionals, gaining invaluable knowledge and skills that will set me apart in my future studies and career.

However, it is not just about my personal growth. My passion comes from wanting to make a difference in the community by addressing the healthcare challenges faced by underserved populations. With my participation, I hope to contribute to the community by supporting local healthcare initiatives, providing medical assistance, and raising awareness about critical health issues.

Choosing Kenya as my destination was a deliberate decision. The country offers a unique opportunity to experience a diverse healthcare system, rich cultural heritage, and breathtaking natural landscapes. While working in urban hospitals and providing care in rural clinics, I hope to gain a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and triumphs of healthcare in a developing country. With this experience, I aim to continue working with medical professionals to tackle the initiatives we can take to aid in this global health issue.

For me, this internship is a meaningful journey that will shape my perspective, deepen my understanding of healthcare disparities, and ignite a lifelong passion for making a difference. I believe I was born to help and heal in whatever capacity I can, so that is my life mission.

Please consider donating to my campaign; I would greatly appreciate it!

With love,
Dominique
