Willkommen auf meiner Reise! My name is Matthew and I have been accepted into the European Union study Abroad program in Freiburg, Germany. I will study the European Union while visiting the European Parliament and discussing current issues with EU officials and leaders. This trip affords many opportunities to explore Freiburg, but also the rest of the European Union, exposing me to many different cultures, experiences, and people. My biggest passion behind this program is to explore environmental sustainability and see how different countries address the issue. From urban planning and policies to local recycling and compost programs, I am ready to research European practices and find ways to apply them back in the USA. Freiburg is known as the Greenest city in Germany and I could not be more excited to explore its sustainable design, bike-friendly streets, and the beautiful Black Forest trails lying right outside the city. I have been working part-time jobs, applying for scholarship after scholarship, and even went to ask fellow family members to help support my study abroad experience, but I still have many studying abroad expenses unaccounted for. I am reaching out to the world to see if anyone would be so kind to support me on my journey to becoming a leader in Global Environmental Sustainability!
