My Travel Story

by: Stefan Lehtinen Start Date: Apr 15, 2021 - End Date: Jan 14, 2022
For all my life I have admired the beauty of the mountains and the Himalayas in particular. The Sagarmatha National Park is among the most majestic and breathtaking places on earth, and visitors from all over the world have been blessed to visit this region and enjoy it's beauty over the years.

While the tourism certainly on the whole is a positive for the region, and many people in the villages depend on it, it has also brought with it enormous amounts of garbage and trash.
In recent years more focused efforts has been made to clean up the region, and Mt. Everest itself in particular. While the area was closed during the pandemic, heroic efforts by many Sherpas helped rid the mountain of some of the garbage we tourists have left behind. But much more effort is needed. It takes many hands and many backs to carry all of this waste down the trail to be responsibly taken care of.

I intend to spend a month hiking up and down the trail carrying as much waste with me as I can, and with your help, I intend to employ as many Sherpas as I can afford to aid me in this task.
The goal is also to supply The Shree Himalaya Primary School and its students with pencils, crayons and writing material for one year. If I can reach my fundraising goal there will be enough money in the budget to also supply them with a modern broadband satellite dish to help in their teaching and allowing the students to easier connect with the world.

This may not seem much in the grand scheme of things, but if I can succeed and carry out what I intend to do we will all have bettered the lives of many.

I thank you all for your support and interest!
