My Travel Story

Hi Friends and Family!

As a lot of you know I have chosen to pursue a second career and education in nursing.  I have chosen to volunteer abroad for my summer externship before graduating in December 2023.  This has always been something near and dear to my heart that I've wanted to do for a long time.  I grew up volunteering on church mission trips and Hurricane Katrina relief in New Orleans, so to get to go to Africa and provide medical care to those in need will be the opportunity of a lifetime.

I will be centered in Livingstone, Zambia for 2 weeks in July.  While I am there I will have an opportunity to witness and participate in medical care provided to communities that normally do not have access to basic wellness checks.  I could be helping in many different specialties such as family planning, HIV/AIDS, women's health, and pediatrics.  This will have a major impact on my nursing education, allowing me to experience real-world medicine practiced outside of the walls of the hospital.  This experience will not only allow me to grow as a future nurse but as a human being as well.
