My Travel Story

by: Olivia Miller Start Date: Nov 3, 2024 - End Date: Mar 2, 2025
Studying abroad is the great opportunity I have been given thus far! On my family's ten day trip to Ireland, I got a little window into just how big the world is. There is so much world out there and I want to see as much as I can! Kyoto, Japan will offer historic site seeing, academic challenges, meaningful friendships, and the world's greatest Ramen (my favorite food)! On this trip, I will stay in hotels and study at the University of Kyoto with Professor David Elliot from SBCC. I will take History 107, World History from Beginnings until 1550 and History 108, World History from 1550 to Present with Professor Elliot. I will also take a sociology class and anime studies class with professors from Kyoto.

To get myself to Kyoto I worked at Skin Deep Salon/Boutique and La Cumbre Country Club to pay the $8,000 tuition, my life savings. My parents graciously bought my plane tickets. When in Kyoto I am expected to pay for all my meals and any travel within the country. I have a goal of raising $500 for traveling within Japan and $1,500 for three months of meals.

Any donations, big or small, are greatly appreciated. I have been blessed with this opportunity and cannot wait to make the most of my time in a new country.

Living in the culture, cities, and around new people will change my perspective on life. I will be learning just by being. I envision these three months abroad to be the most intense and best learning experience I have ever had.

I am so grateful to SBCC and the study abroad team for letting me be one of their bloggers.
