My Travel Story

This opportunity to immerse myself in a new culture is a key motivator for me to travel to Cape Town for an internship. I am aware that, despite how lovely the South African capital is, much work still has to be done in regard to reducing the high crime rate, and human rights/psychology areas. I did a quick search on various facts and issues affecting the city. The webpage for The South African College of Applied Psychology (SACAP) caught my eye. It is said that between one and six people experience anxiety and depression. As someone who has battled anxiety and depression, I want to support and advocate for people who are dealing with that. Another problem I've encountered was that there are possible injustices in relation to the use of force and abusive policing within the South African Police Service (SAPS). Additionally, it is mentioned that Cape Town has an exceptionally high crime rate of 84.32%. I want to obtain experience in these areas and support my mission of giving back to society in whatever way I can as a forensic psychology student who is also considering minoring in political science. My ideal internship experience would be one where I would not only be working but also gaining professional skills and being a part of a supportive community.
