Baby Hoff Goes "Down Under"
My Travel Story
I have decided to crawl out of my comfort zone and explore the "down-under" through an opportunity to complete an internship in the exotic Sydney, Australia. While surrounded by kangaroos and the worlds most extreme desserts I will be interning in a physical therapy/rehabilitation setting. During my internship I will get hands on experience with a physical therapy facitlity (company to be determined) for 15 weeks with a minimum of 40 hours of service per week. I would be the first student at the University of Kansas to complete an internship abroad with a major in Exercise Science and a focus in Pre-Physical therapy. This opportunity would allow me to encourage and pave a pathway for fellow Jayhawks in my major (and even those who are not) to pursue travels while simultaneously gaining knowledge and experiencing a new culture.
While in Australia I plan to not only provide assistance in the rehabilitation facility, but also to participate in volunteer opportunities in the community that would introduce me to new faces and help me adapt/experience as much of the culture as possible. I'm interested in the obvious, well-known attractions of Australia, but also interested to explore the local favorites while making oversea friendships and colleagues.
Unfortunately, opportunities like this aren't offered without a guaranteed gulp of the greens. With that being said, I'm starting an adult piggy bank to help cover some of the program costs, to put towards travel tickets, etc, and I would be grateful if you helped me fill that piggy! Anything helps to keep my bank account from going "down-under" ;)
