My Travel Story

Family and Friends,

For those of you who don’t know, I recently completed a Master of Arts degree at the Shakespeare Institute in Stratford-upon-Avon. Sadly, covid hit just a few months into my degree program, and I missed some amazing opportunities to work with the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and participate in activities with some of the leading scholars in the Shakespeare world. I now have an amazing opportunity to fill those gaps.

I have been accepted to participate in a three-week program at the Globe Theatre in London beginning this July. Teaching Shakespeare through Performance is a joint effort between The Globe and The English Speaking Union. The Globe offers a unique program that allows teachers to create robust and dynamic lessons that move Shakespeare’s work off the page and onto the stage. As someone who loves the written word, the smell of old books, and the adventures found in great literature, the acting and staging components of Shakespeare have been a weak point in my teaching, but there is no better place to remedy that than the Globe.

However, I need a little help getting there. Due to budget constraints and Colorado state rules about funding overseas professional development, my school cannot help fund this experience. The program and fees add up to $5400, and the travel expenses add another $1400. I am asking for any help to defray these costs that you can give! Even if you can’t provide financial support, you can keep up with my time at the Globe through this site.

Sincerely,

Carol Parker
