My Travel Story

by: Kaz Hayhurst Start Date: Nov 8, 2017 - End Date: Aug 7, 2018
The organisation 'SLV' is a voluntary organisation founded within the year of 2010. It involves running projects that help the local community as well as helping students at university gain voluntary and work experience to help them advance with theit future prospects; in return, I will be providing the community with my skills which requires me to work within an entirely different culture. I am very much looking forward to getting involved in this exciting new culture which is why I’m fundraising, due to the fact I’ll be joining SLV in Sri Lanka for 5 weeks from August to September on the Psychology placement.

During my stay, I will be working with individuals who suffer with mental issues in Sri Lanka. I’ll be running activities for patients and using various therapies to engage with patients on a variety of wards in multiple institutions. As well as these projects I’ll also be working with individuals with special needs and teaching English to children and to young people on vocational courses. I’ll be using my skills to work with those who may be marginalized in Sri Lankan society. I’ll be living with other volunteers and with a Sri Lanka family as well.

A fantastic opportunity I have been offered which I would not like to miss due to insufficient funds as I am a university student. Any donations would very much be appreciated and for those of you who do, I thank you in advance for your generosity and support.
