My devotion to protecting the Environment and wildlife stems from my nine (soon to be ten) summers spent camping around the United States. Through various Environmental courses throughout High School and my time at NYU as an Environmental Studies major, I have learned a lot about how climate change perpetuated by human activity has a detrimental effect on our oceans and marine wildlife, and it is heartbreaking. I want to turn this heartbreak into action, rather than fatalism. Additionally, my passions have been very focused on Marine Ecology as I am currently taking a course “Animal Behavior for Compassionate Conservation” where I intend to focus my research on Harbor Porpoises recently detected in the New York Harbor. My research will focus on harbor porpoise sensitivity to noise pollution and ways to protect their newly growing presence through policy and action.

My exposure to the Environment from such a young age has inspired me to pursue this field as a course of study and eventual career. I have been aching to do something bigger than myself and give back to something that I have spent my whole life benefiting and growing from. I want to continue my journey through the Marine Conservation program in Belize.

Through the Belize Marine Conservation Program, I hope to learn more about marine conservation, marine wildlife, and how to act on and in our oceans responsibly. I hope to make a positive impact protecting our oceans and the creatures within them and support important and ethical climate initiatives. Additionally, I hope to learn more about culture in Belize and connect with a diverse group of individuals. I want to apply everything I learn back to my life in New York and spread knowledge and motivation about protecting our Oceans and wildlife.
