The Semester At Sea program in its spring 2017 voyage will allow me to take classes that prepare me in my professional life as an arts educator and activist.

To this end, I will take the course Understanding Dance where I will learn about world dances such as Butoh from Japan, Bharatanatyam from India and Gumboot dance from South Africa, among others. Moreover, I will learn about the meaning of dance for other cultures and how they have used it. I will also enroll in the course Education For Global Peace, which will teach me conflict resolution, peacemaking and peacekeeping skills. Furthermore, I will take Literature Of The Earth, a course in which I will learn about how other people have related with the earth and its resources. This course will allow me to reflect about my personal relationship with the earth and I hope I can find creative ways to protect it and teach others to appreciate it and care for it. Finally, I will take Global Studies which will let me analyze and compare the different problems that some Asian and African countries such as China and Ghana face.

Besides academics, I will also participate in volunteering projects as an IMPACT scholar in faraway countries such as Japan, China, Vietnam, Burma, India, Mauritius, South Africa, Ghana and Morocco. I will use my previous service learning experiences to organize and lead service learning reflection sessions for other SAS program students. I hope to use the skills I get as an IMPACT scholar to offer conferences to university students in Mexico where I can also share with them what I learned while at SAS.

After I return to Mexico I will offer free dance and theatre classes to children and youth from my community in Veracruz. This will be a way to also honor and thank all the people who through their donations and support make my SAS experience possible. I believe that dance and theatre education can be a powerful tool to teach children and youth about the importance of peace and nature conservation. The goal of these classes will be that participant children also learn to cultivate peace within themselves and with others as well as to appreciate and take care of nature. I hope that they get the message spread it so that my community can become a more peaceful and healthy place to live.

Thank you for reading about my campaign and I hope that together we can turn these ideas into a reality :)

Your donation will have a powerful and lasting impact in the lives of children and youth from Veracruz, Mexico, my city. We live here surrounded by violence and crime. The newspapers report daily on the killings and disappearances of people, many of whom are young, university level students.

I will study dance and peace studies as well as I will work in service projects that revolve around these topics. I will bring back this knowledge and set of experiences to my hometown, where I will offer free dance classes and workshops to promote peace through art.

You can make a $10 dollar donation or more, also share and contact me to see in which other ways you can help, perhaps with travel tickets, textbooks, and more.

Have a wonderful day and believe in your power to make a difference in this world :)
