My Travel Story

Hello, my name is Ivette, and I am currently in my junior year at UTD majoring in Literature. The path I have been following is one that will lead me to become a teacher and teach English in Japan. An opportunity I have been granted for the success of my goal, is to attend the study abroad program to Japan in summer of 2024. The experiences I will be gaining this summer will be incredibly advantageous and invaluable. I will be able to gain a more profound understanding of the culture that will aid me in being able to create a strong curriculum for my future students. Being able to experience Japan as a student first rather than jumping straight to the workforce will help me better adapt to the environment.  Furthermore, I will be experiencing the culture as a Latina which will also provide a wider scope for a project, I am currently working on in my RHET class, that will continue to my Capstone course in the Fall. The project I am engaged with is on the hardships faced by first-generation Latino students. I want to create an informative journal where I can provide new opportunities for my fellow Latinos that have never thought about expanding their career into other countries. I am over the moon that I will be able to attend this program, however it is an expensive trip that was not in my financial plan for this year. I have applied to an extremely competitive scholarship that I am not guaranteed to be awarded. I am hoping to raise as much money as I am able, to ensure that I am able to fully appreciate and attend the program. Anything you are willing to donate is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
