My Travel Story

My name is Kez and I'm an expert world traveller who likes to give back to communities and make an impact around the world. I'll be doing that while attempting what less than 100 other females on the earth have managed to do... travel to every UN recognised country in the world!

A Dream of Travelling to Make an Impact Around the World
From a young age, I was fascinated by different cultures and natural wonders around the world and as I got older, I decided that I wanted to visit every country in the world so that I could experience and see them all.. but I wanted to do it a little bit differently.

I'm not your average traveller. I'm adventurous and I'm doing everything by myself. No tours or fixers. And on a budget of just $15 a day. I travel by land, take public transport and stay with locals, for a full emmersion experience that leads to opportunities where I can volunteer my skills and time in local communities to make an impact.

I've gotten to 168 countries and regions this way and I'm looking to continue onto all 193 UN recognised countries by the end of the year.

I don't plan ahead too much and I find that staying with locals is a great way to exchange culture, while really getting to know what life is truly like in a place. When locals see my passion and motivation to make an impact, they always lead me to places where I can give back to the communities that are hosting me.

Why is it Important to Make an Impact?
On my travels around the world, I have learned that humanity is what makes us great and we need to have empathy for our fellow humans. This is why I try to help people and make an impact in whatever way I can. At home, I always participate in events aimed at giving back to the community.

I have volunteered for charity organisations such as Unison, (working towards equality), Oxfam (helping people in low socio-economic conditions) and Food Angel (feeding people in low socio-economic areas). These are projects that are meaningful to me and giving back to communities gives me a sense of purpose and something to be proud of.

How Do I Make an Impact When I'm Travelling?
I often end up volunteering in schools. In fact, I recently visited a school in the slums of Karachi, Pakistan and spoke to female secondary students who normally woudn't have access to education in 'sercret' schools in Kabul and Herat, Afghanistan.

I was so impressed by the motivation and willingness of these students to learn that I am currently working with one of these schools to continue helping these students once I have left the country.

Other ways I've tried to make an impact while travelling include volunteering for an NGO in Mongolia that helps to improve the lives of citizens living in 'the slums'. I have also made an impact by volunteering at schools and orphanages around Africa and Asia.

On top of that, I have given my time to march in rallies to make an impact when it comes to health issues, like the blood donation drive and rally I attended not too long ago in Kalchini, India.

I also try to make an impact by volunteering for environmental causes too. You'll often find me joining beach or trail clean ups in many of the places I visit. These are small gestures, but I find they can make an impact on local communities and help change environmental attitudes.

I don't always plan these activities in advance, so my giving back and volunteer activities tend to look different in each place. However, I do try to do something, even if it's very small, to make an impact in each place I journey too.

How Your Donation Will Help Me Make an Impact Around the World
The money donated to this campaign will go towards one year worth of travel expenses, so that I can concentrate on the benefits of volunteering and giving back to the community in every region I visit.

I will regularly update my blog and social media channels along the way to keep you in the loop about how I'm volunteering and giving back to communities around the world. There may even be some adventures had along the way.

I'm a teacher by trade and often end up giving impromptu classes to locals. I also believe that travel is my education. It helps me see that the world really is a fantastic place, while making me more resilient and open minded. So by giving back, I can also make an impact on myself and my world view, which makes me better able to help.

This is why I want to travel to every country. I want to see all the cultures the world has to offer. I want to experience all the natural wonders around the globe. Plus, I want to give back and make an impact in the areas that I visit.

Final Note on My Volunteering Around the World Mission
I'm excited to continue to make an impact while I travel around the world. Living my passion for travel and giving back to communities is an extremely transformative and humbling experience.

I would be forever grateful for any support from kind souls out there that see and believe in my vision for volunteering and making an impact around the world.

I can also offer you a copy of my bestselling travel guide, Wandering the World on a Shoestring as a thank you gift if you make a US$50 (HK$395) donation, or a 'Choose Kez's adventure' opportunity with a US$100 (HK$790) donation, to show my appreciation and give something back to you for your kindness. :o)

  • Visiting A School In The Slums Of Karachi

I was humbled by an invitation to visit a school run by a charity foundation in the slums of Karachi.

The Kiran Foundation is ensuring that the children in this area have access to food and education. It was great to take a tour of the centre and have the staff share their vision with me.

Finding My New Favourite Food in Karachi
Karachi, the old capital of Pakistan is famous for several things, but locals tell me that one of thing it's most famous for is its different types of Parathas.

Parathas are a breakfast and dinner staple in most of Pakistan. Adding cheese to them makes them a great choice for lunch that isn't spicy like almost all other Pakistani food.

In Karachi, you can get all kinds of food stuck inside your paratha, like cheese and mushroom, chicken and cheese.. there's even a pizza paratha!
