Donations to ALMO Daycare in Arusha, Tanzania
My Travel Story
Over the past two weeks, I have been volunteering at ALMO Daycare in Arusha, Tanzania through IVHQ. This experience has been incredibly eye-opening and has deeply highlighted just how much we often take for granted in our daily lives.
I would greatly appreciate some help in funding and donations to improve ALMO Daycare to sustain the establishment and provide the children a higher standard of living. The donations will contribute to:
- Installing classroom windows/ceilings
- School uniforms
- New stationary equipment
- New play equipment and toys
- Health insurance
Backstory of ALMO:
The children at ALMO Daycare each have their own unique personalities, yet they share a common bond in coming from some of the most deprived families in Arusha facing daily economic challenges. Despite their circumstances, these children are among the kindest and happiest I have ever met. They consistently show gratitude every day, regardless of their challenges and will always go out of their way to brighten your day with a smile.
The ALMO Baby Class was established in 2015 and expanded to include daycare services in 2023. Currently, it accommodates up to 50 children, ranging from infants to five years old. Looking ahead, there are plans for further expansion, with a vision to provide specialised facilities for orphans and children with disabilities.
The daycare has seen steady improvement with the support of IVHQ volunteers each year. While the staff at ALMO are exceptional and work tirelessly every day, there is still much progress to be made which can be possible through donations.
From my experience, even items such as writing pencils, snacks/lunch, coloured pencils/crayons, new books and toys can go a long way. Currently, the children are sharing 3 crayons in a classroom of up to 25 meaning they have to share and wait their turn to continue their work. Things like this can easily disrupt their learning and allow them to understandably become distracted.
I am super grateful for my experience and would like to do everything I can to support this lovely daycare. With your help we can make these small things become a reality for these children.
