My Travel Story

by: Elaina Polovick Start Date: Aug 9, 2016 - End Date: Dec 28, 2016
I have been accepted into the Jesuit School of Theology’s India Interreligious Theological Immersion. This immersion experience will last for three weeks during the month of January and be proceeded by a semester long course in preparation of the trip. The course will include opportunities for comparative studies, interpersonal interreligious encounters (including when possible community leaders on the societal margins), religious experience, and theological reflection. I am incredibly excited about this opportunity, but need some financial support to help me make this trip a reality. For many years I have felt called to travel to India and although I have not been able to travel there I have taken many course on Hinduism, Buddhism, and other eastern religious traditions while in college. My interest in Hinduism and Indian culture also led me to take part in diverse cultural Indian traditions throughout my life. I’m positive that being able to engage with individuals in India and visiting sacred sites there would be a powerful academic and spiritual experience for me. I also feel called to be a part of this immersion experience as I am passionate about interreligious dialogue and issues of faith and culture. I have spent many years working with and developing interfaith programs. I think it is imperative to study the intersection of faith and culture, and to engage in interfaith dialogue.
